Job Title: ASL Interpreter Ambassador
The Mayor’s Office of the Deaf, Deafblind, Hard-of-Hearing (MODDHH) is seeking volunteers
who possess the skills and knowledge base to provide American Sign Language (ASL) services
to MODDHH staff, other District of Columbia agencies, and constituents. MODDHH office is a
fast-paced environment with staff hosting and attending meetings with DC Government agencies
and officials, local businesses and organizations, and provides community programing to
constituents.
Volunteers must have knowledge of Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of
Professional Conduct (CPC), ADA requirements, DC laws and regulations, and are strongly
encouraged to possess membership in at least one professional interpreting organization.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Provides quality, accurate ASL-English, English-ASL interpretation
• Provides in-person and virtual interpreting services
• Attends weekly staff meetings
• Establish and maintain professional relationships with MODDHH staff
• Attends MODDHH and other Mayoral Community Events
• Attends weekly check-ins with Lead Staff Interpreter
• Other duties as assigned
Volunteer Requirements
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have completed a minimum of two years of post-secondary education
• Must have academic-level fluency in ASL
• Must have academic-level fluency in English
• Must have and maintain membership in a minimum of one professional interpreting
organization
• Possession of a NIC Knowledge Exam preferred
