DESCRIPTION 

Policy Analyst Ambassador  

 

Mayor’s Office of Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing (MODDHH) 

The mission of MODDHH is to advance the civil rights of the Deaf, DeafBlind, Deaf Disabled, Hard of Hearing, and Late Deafened (D/DB/DD/HH/LD) communities by ensuring and overseeing District-wide compliance with laws that affect the corresponding communities; as well as provide D/DB/DD/HH/LD District of Columbia residents with access to constituent development programs, resources, and services. 

 

The incumbent is responsible for supporting the current MODDHH Policy Analyst (in alignment with the Director and Deputy Director) in identifying current or impending issues/barriers impacting MODDHH constituents, conducting social assessment and public policy research to create and evaluate solutions, and assessing the implemented policy initiatives and/or programs to continue policy recommendations and updates for the MODDHH.  

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

 

  • Identify and research policies impacting Deaf, Deaf, Blind, Deaf Disabled, Hard of Hearing and Late Deafened DC residents;  
  • Identify data required for use in developing policies;  
  • Assess the political/community environment, risk, benefits, strengths and/or weaknesses associated with particular policy proposals or courses of action;  
  • Co-develop and review the preparation of responses, position papers, briefing papers, Mayor’s Orders, Administrative Issuance for MODDHH;  
  • Attend meetings applicable to DC government councils/task forces/initiatives/commissions with the Policy Analyst, Deputy Director, and/or Director;  
  • Support the development and translation of ASL videos on Legislative and Policy-related information for MODDHH social media platforms;  
  • Support the Policy Analyst with ongoing and as-needed policy projects;  
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.   

 

Education and Experience 

 

Must be currently enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university pursing Bachelor’s degree in government, public policy, nonprofit management, international relations, statistics, or related field. Prior working or internship experience is not required but preferred. On your resume, please be sure to include any volunteer experience or extra-curricular activities past and/or currently involved in. Qualified applicants must be able to effectively communicate in American Sign Language.
