Description

Serve DC supporting the 9/11 Day of Service for a large-scale meal packing project at the National Armory! DC is one of many cities being activated all over the country. We have a goal to pack 200,000 meals and engage 800 volunteers in the District. There will be on-site entertainment, guest emcees, a diverse group of faith leaders, community and corporate leaders.

Breakfast will be provided to the morning shift volunteers and lunch will be provided to the afternoon shift volunteers. Onsite training will also be provided for all volunteers. We recommend not bringing bags into the venue. Volunteers should wear closed-toed shoes and should limit jewelry.

Our Heavy Lifters’ job is to unload the ingredients from their bags/cases/cartons and keep a continual supply in the tubs on the packaging line.  Come ready to work! As a Heavy Lifter, you will:

  • Attend the training session prior to general volunteer arrival
  • Open containers holding the ingredients
  • Keep those containers from making direct contact with the floor
  • Transport the ingredients to the packaging lines (flat carts, hand trucks, hand carry)
  • Fill the corresponding ingredient tubs located on the packaging line
  • Work with the Table Captains in response to the “Call for Ingredients” signs
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

COVID-19 Safety Guidelines:

  • All volunteers are required to wear a face mask - covering mouth and nose - at all times
  • All volunteers must wear a hair net and beard net (if necessary) in the packing room (which will be provided)
  • All volunteers must wear gloves throughout the packing process
  • All volunteers must sanitize their hands before entering the packing space

Please be aware that this is a public activity that involves and requires relatively close contact with others during the time you are participating in the Service Project. While we have established these guidelines to help reduce the risk of you and other participants coming into contact with others who may be COVID-19 positive, and possibly contracting the COVID-19 virus, we cannot guarantee that these steps will prevent you or others from being exposed to COVID-19 at the Service Project.

By registering for, and participating in the Service Project, you acknowledge the foregoing and assume, to the greatest extent permitted by applicable law, all risk for contracting COVID-19 and related injury, illness or death, and you agree not to hold the 9/11 Day Parties responsible as a result of your participation in the Service Project.

Total Volunteers Needed: 10 per shift
