The Annual 17th Street High Heel Race is a time to celebrate the diversity of DC's LGBTQIA+ community and join thousands of spectators to cheer on costumed drag queens, drag kings, and community members as they race down 17th Street NW. Filled with lively drag entertainment, a parade, and much more, this long-standing DC tradition is not to be missed!
As a volunteer for the High Heel Race, you will serve as either a Human Barrier or part of the Clean-up Crew. The Clean-up Crew will be activated after the race, responsible for cleaning up the event areas and ensuring all items are returned to the appropriate sources. Human Barrier volunteers will provide separation between the racers, parade participants, and the crowd for the 2024 17th Street High Heel Race.
Volunteers for both roles will meet on October 29, 2024, at 5:45 PM at 1519 17th St NW, Washington, DC 20036 (JR's Bar) before being activated for the event. Volunteers are needed from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Human Barriers will manage crowd control during the parade and race, while the Clean-up Crew will handle post-event clean-up. After the race, volunteers are invited to enjoy the after-party, which will feature performances and entertainment!
Please note: Streets will be closed, and parking will not be provided.
