Who We Are

We the Girls (WTG) is a middle school program that provides a safe space for young women of color and their allies to deepen their understanding of self, sharpen their leadership skills, enhance confidence and self-esteem, and build community.

What We Do

We the Girls members have opportunities to engage with community leaders and learn more about leadership. Club members also engage in activities, within their own school communities, by leading empowerment projects that address social issues affecting young women of color. Club members immerse themselves in the knowledge of who they are as young women of color. WTG provides an environment for club members to take active steps and make choices in shaping their identity. WTG opens up to the DCPS community with a culminating end-of-year conference which serves 350-400 young women. The annual conference is a day of empowerment where participants engage in workshops centered around the WTG pillars, entrepreneurship, STEAM, and more. It is important to expose our members to workshops centered around mental wellness, self-care advocacy, and healthy relationship building. Additionally, there is a focus on the value of setting boundaries in relationships to promote positive mental health.
