Who We Are
Play and Thrive DC is tackling the play inequity in our nation’s capital. There is a growing prevalence of membership-based and parent-run playgroups in the district, for children 5 and under. Socio-economic standing determines access to quality housing, food, education, and community resources. Marginalized families who reside East of the River, where there are limited community-based programming for their youngest and most vulnerable residents.
What We Do
Our playdates are very unique to Wards 7 and 8 because not only did we host a festival for children ( Let’s Play Ward 8), we hosted story times which consist of live performances from teaching artists, arts and crafts, science projects and explorative sensory tables. The events were targeted to children 3- 7 years old, they got the opportunity to engage in literature, develop prewriting and writing skill, expand their vocabulary, discover the magic of chemistry, and express themselves through art. Most of all they had a safe space to thrive.
We also host infant playgroups where caregivers learn about their infants development, while offering play tips.
