Who We Are

Anacostia Riverkeeper protects and restores the Anacostia River for everyone who lives, works, and plays in the watershed, and advocates for a healthy river for all of its communities. A big piece of our work is connecting watershed residents to their river.

What We Do

We organize trash cleanups throughout the watershed for school groups, large days of service for the public, and even service days for small groups to clear and characterize the trash captured by Bandalong Litter Traps. We'll post large public cleanups here but please reach out directly if you'd like to organize something else. Businesses are encourage to inquire about sponsoring private cleanups as volunteer opportunities for employees.

During the summer we run Friday Night Fishing on the floating docks at Diamond Teague Park by the baseball stadium and can always use extra pairs of hands and eyes to help, whether you're a pro and can help teach people to fish, or you're just there to help untangle fishing lines.

Other volunteer positions could involve help in the office, strategic nonprofit assistance, helping run the registration table at events, tabling at community events, etc. If you have another idea about how you can help, please reach out to us and let's chat!

In addition to volunteer opportunities we also offer free educational Anacostia River Explorer tours funded by DOEE and the disposable bag fee.
