Join the Youth Action Institute on a trip to Stoddard Baptist Nursing Home where we will visit the residents to bring them companionship and cheer.

During this trip, most volunteers will run crafts and a game of BINGO with the residents while a small group goes from room to room to visit with bed-bound patients.

Stoddard Baptist Nursing Home provides both short-term and long-term care for low-income individuals to ensure that everyone has access to quality care full of dignity, compassion and respect.

This project is open to teens ages 14-18 and is eligible for 2 SSL hours.

Spend your morning supporting survivors of natural disasters, asylum seekers, and first responders.

SAMU First Response is an international humanitarian nonprofit 501(c)(3), that draws from over 40 years of experience. Their programming provides much needed food, medical attention, clothing, hygienic care, emergency respite and travel support to their clientele.

Volunteers will make over 250 instant oatmeal kits, a perfect grab-and-go meal for residents of the SAMU migrant respite center.

Teens ages 11-18 are welcome to join us for this project. Teens who participate will receive 2 SSL hours.

Good Afternoon Prospective DC CERTS!   To kick -off preparedness month, we are hosting a basic training coming up the week of September 15-19 from 6-9pm and concluding Saturday, Sept 20th from 10-3pm. We will be hosted by Paul PCS, located in Ward 4 at 5800 8th St NW.  You must attend all sessions to receive your certificate. It is a Metro accessible location. We have 35 spots. We will close the list next Wednesday, Sept 10th at 5pm.

We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to help make our 2nd Annual Anti-Bullying Peace Rally a memorable and impactful event. This family friendly community rally will take place on Saturday, October 25 from 10am-2mp in the Southwest Community (exact address will be provided upon acceptance)

The Peace Rally brings youth, families, and community leaders together to promote kindness, respect, and unity while taking a stand against bullying. With your support, we can ensure this event runs smoothly and leaves a lasting impression on everyone who attends. 

Volunteer Roles & Duties: 

Greeter & Registration: Welcome guest with a smile, assist with sign-in, and distribute materials. 

Youth & Family Engagement: Help with activity stations, games, and arts and crafts tables 

Logistic Support: Assisting the Admin team with set-up, breakdown, and event flow.

Hospitality: Provide guidance, hand out refreshments (hydration station) 

Community Tabling Support: Help local organizations share resources with attendees

The Latino Student Fund's Tutoring Program provides free support and academic assistance to Washington metropolitan area students to ensure their academic success. We offer individualized tutoring to support students from PreK through 12th grade in math and reading.

Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year are local, personal disasters like home fires. They may not make the news, but we know they are just as devastating to the families affected. Trained and available, Disaster Action Team volunteers are ready to respond to these emergencies, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. From offering a shoulder to cry on, to meeting any immediate needs for shelter or supplies, to connecting people with long term recovery services, our volunteers ensure that families don’t have to face tough times alone. 

This position supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services department. Disaster Health Services Responders provide disaster health care by meeting the disaster related health needs of clients and providing support to other volunteers.

The purpose of the Minor Missions Project is for young people to learn and educate their local community on change they wish to see. Students will gain practical experience, develop connections, and provide opportunities for leadership while inspiring others within their community.

Examples of topics people could do for minor missions: climate change, hunger, etc.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive credit for 20 community service hours.

Assisting a student with their "interview for impact" or "Minor Missions" project. Those projects allow them to explore their passions and tell stories. 

Encouraging artistic growth while respecting their unique voice and vision

As part of the gleaning team, you will walk the market as its closing and talk to vendors to collect their donated items, then help sort and separate the food to be picked up. It's fun but intensive work!

We're looking for volunteers to deliver food donations! For this opportunity, you'll use your own car to pick up surplus food from a law firm in Chinatown and deliver it to a low-income housing development just down the road. 

We need volunteers to deliver these donations on Mondays, between 10:00am and 1:00pm. From start to finish, this process should take about half an hour, so you can go anytime within the timeframe. It's a quick and simple way to save food that would otherwise go to waste, while supporting our neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

Seabury operates two Wellness Centers and nine dining sites around Wards 5 and 6 for older adults. Volunteers help to serve meals or lead engagement activities. Opportunity Title: Interpretation Support (Dari to English and English to Dari)



Opportunity Description: We are looking for a fully bilingual English-Dari speaker with native/heritage fluency (preferably in both languages but at least one) to provide interpretation support to one of our clients. The volunteer would be assisting one of our immigration team staff attorneys during their client’s appointment to streamline communication during the meeting. Interpretation would be needed from both English to Dari and Dari to English. Volunteers are not required to be certified interpreters but should be completely comfortable interpreting between the two languages, and preferably having interpretation experience, whether through a formal position or volunteering.

Our Office is looking for a talented and creative Social Media and Communications Ambassador to support our social media efforts. You will be comfortable creating and managing multiple social media accounts, developing content to inform, educate and engage our audience to increase awareness and achieve outreach goals. You will have a working knowledge of the major content management systems and social media analytics and be experienced in running targeted ads on social media sites. You will report to the Deputy Director who will guide you on the social media content and campaigns you will be working on. We're looking for volunteers to deliver food donations! For this opportunity, you'll use your own car to pick up surplus food from a cafe downtown and deliver it to a nearby organization (varying by day of the week).

From start to finish, this process should take about half an hour. It's a quick and simple way to save food that would otherwise go to waste, while supporting our neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

We are seeking volunteers to become part of the Office of the District of Columbia Long-Term Care Ombudsman (DCLTCO) volunteer team. The DCLTCO empowers and helps residents of long-term care facilities resolve problems, answer questions, and improve the quality of their lives. As a Volunteer Ombudsman, you will listen to residents’ issues and concerns and then work with staff, families, or other residents toward resolution. Some of the issues you may assist a resident with could be, obtaining feeding assistance, receiving clean sheets or clothing, getting a question answered about Medicare or Medicaid, or helping to organize a resident council to help residents advocate on their own behalf. The volunteer job is important, and you will have an opportunity to have a profound effect on the lives of D.C. long-term care residents. Also require a minimum one-year time commitment, must have a landline or cell phone. We will provide a 36 hours training, 7 hours of independent study; at least 10 hours in the field; and a range of 16-20 hours of classroom training. This position supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services department. The purpose of this position is to perform Disaster Engagement readiness activities needed to support the regional disaster workforce.

The Home Fire Campaign aims to save lives by installing smoke alarms and educating residents about home fire risk by providing home-safety checklists and plans in vulnerable neighborhoods. We've won numerous awards across the last ten years, including from the Spur Local as "one of the best" local nonprofits), the National Association of Urban Debate Leagues (Most Outstanding League), and are the reigning UDL Middle School National Champions (6 years in a row(!)

Do you have a skill or hobby you would like to share? Would you like to get to know some of our patients? Then come lead a patient activity at Christ House! In this role, volunteers will come in for 1-2 hours in the mornings or afternoons (weekday or weekend) to lead some kind of patient activity. The sky is the limit; if you've got a talent to share, we'd love for you to share it! In this role, volunteers provide administrative support to our nurses' station by buzzing people into our building during office hours, answering phones and delivering messages to the appropriate departments, and assisting patients with making phone calls. This role is pivotal in maintaining smooth operations on our respite floor. It also provides prospective volunteers with the opportunity to experience a respite unit firsthand and engage with our patients on the unit.

In this role, volunteers coordinate with our kitchen staff to provide nutritious meals to our patients during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Typical responsibilities include setting up the dining room for meal service, preparing food, meal prep, serving plates, washing dishes, and cleaning up the dining room after service. This role provides the opportunity to work closely with staff and get to know our patients. Volunteers in this role are welcome to enjoy a meal with patients.

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join us at Play & Thrive DC for our summer events at the Anacostia Community Museum. We will be hosting art workshops, Sunday Funday activities for kids, sensory play sessions, and more.

We need individuals with weekend availability who love working with children and are creative. Volunteer responsibilities include setting up for events, transporting materials, leading and monitoring activities, and informing residents about our initiative.
