The mission of the Mayor’s Office of Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing (MODDHH) is to advance the civil rights of the Deaf, DeafBlind, Deaf Disabled, Hard of Hearing, and Late Deafened (D/DB/DD/HH/LD) communities by ensuring and overseeing District-wide compliance with laws that affect the corresponding communities; as well as provide D/DB/DD/HH/LD District of Columbia residents with access to constituent development programs, resources, and services. ​

Our Office is looking for a talented and creative Social Media and Communications Ambassador to support our social media efforts. You will be comfortable creating and managing multiple social media accounts, developing content to inform, educate and engage our audience to increase awareness and achieve outreach goals. You will have a working knowledge of the major content management systems and social media analytics and be experienced in running targeted ads on social media sites. You will report to the Deputy Director who will guide you on the social media content and campaigns you will be working on. At the end of the internship, you will have run a small campaign and reported the outcomes to the Office. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on our Office’s success.

Educational qualifications and technical skills to deliver on the job:

Currently enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field such as Digital Media Some experience in digital marketing, social media marketing, and content management Impeccable communication skills in written English and American Sign Language, and excellent internet research skills Mastery of the major social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and TikTok Provide support with the creation of social media content for Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms, and ability to deliver creative content (text, image and video) Stay up to date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools and applications Perform other related duties as assigned

Volunteer: Project Management Ambassador

The time frame for the Project Management Ambassador is from October 1, 2024 through September 15, 2025 (Volunteers can work for as long or as short as needed and it can be semester based) and the duties/responsibilities are as follows:

The Project Management Ambassador will be a member of the Effective Communication Program/ECP team supporting our projects related to accessible communication (ASL Interpreters, CART, etc.)

 

The Ambassador will be supporting the tracking of financial and operational work for the ECP project and - with the supervision of the Chief of Staff and Operations Assistant - will ensure the seamless execution of the project

 

Follow-up with vendors on ECP requests and invoices as needed

 

Develop tracking mechanism on quality of vendor operations and agency service requests; update and maintain multiple project trackers

 

Conduct benchmarking and perform analysis on computer platforms efficiency; support with reviewing monthly vendor invoicing documents

 

This experience offers a maximum commitment of 5 hours per week

The incumbent is responsible for supporting the current MODDHH Policy Analyst (in alignment with the Director and Deputy Director) in identifying current or impending issues/barriers impacting MODDHH constituents, conducting social assessment and public policy research to create and evaluate solutions, and assessing the implemented policy initiatives and/or programs to continue policy recommendations and updates for the MODDHH.  

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

 

Identify and research policies impacting Deaf, Deaf, Blind, Deaf Disabled, Hard of Hearing and Late Deafened DC residents;   Identify data required for use in developing policies;   Assess the political/community environment, risk, benefits, strengths and/or weaknesses associated with particular policy proposals or courses of action;   Co-develop and review the preparation of responses, position papers, briefing papers, Mayor’s Orders, Administrative Issuance for MODDHH;   Attend meetings applicable to DC government councils/task forces/initiatives/commissions with the Policy Analyst, Deputy Director, and/or Director;   Support the development and translation of ASL videos on Legislative and Policy-related information for MODDHH social media platforms;   Support the Policy Analyst with ongoing and as-needed policy projects;   Perform other related duties as assigned.   

 

Education and Experience 

 

Must be currently enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university pursing Bachelor’s degree in government, public policy, nonprofit management, international relations, statistics, or related field. to MODDHH staff, other District of Columbia agencies, and constituents. MODDHH office is a
fast-paced environment with staff hosting and attending meetings with DC Government agencies
and officials, local businesses and organizations, and provides community programing to
constituents.


Volunteers must have knowledge of Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of
Professional Conduct (CPC), ADA requirements, DC laws and regulations, and are strongly
encouraged to possess membership in at least one professional interpreting organization.


Duties & Responsibilities


• Provides quality, accurate ASL-English, English-ASL interpretation
• Provides in-person and virtual interpreting services
• Attends weekly staff meetings
• Establish and maintain professional relationships with MODDHH staff
• Attends MODDHH and other Mayoral Community Events
