Position Title: Communication Ambassador - Mayor's Office of LGBTQ Affairs - Intern
Role Summary:
Join the Mayor's Office of LGBTQ Affairs in Washington D.C. as an Intern, supporting the Public Information Officer in diverse communication initiatives and outreach efforts. This role contributes to amplifying positive narratives, engaging with the LGBTQIA+ community, and advocating for policies and programs that uplift and support LGBTQ individuals across the District of Columbia.
Duties and Responsibilities:
News Review and Analysis: Assist the Public Information Officer in reading and reviewing news clips related to the mayor, local and federal government, and LGBTQ issues, providing insights and summaries for relevant information.
Social Media Engagement: Curate and suggest content ideas from social media platforms that align with the values and initiatives of the LGBTQIA+ community, contributing to content creation and strategy development.
Influencer Database Expansion: Support the Public Information Officer in expanding influencer databases by researching and identifying potential influencers aligned with the office's objectives and initiatives.
Collaborative Support: Assist in fostering connections with government agencies and community organizations, aiding in the establishment and maintenance of partnerships to advance the LGBTQ Affairs Office's goals.
Communication Support: Aid in the creation of communication materials, including briefings, articles, and social media posts, to effectively convey the mission, values, and initiatives of the Mayor's Office of LGBTQ Affairs.
Evaluation and Adaptation: Participate in assessing the effectiveness of communication activities, contributing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience: Pursuing or completed a degree in communications, public relations, or a related field with a keen interest in LGBTQ issues and advocacy.
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an understanding of effective communication principles and methods.
Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities within a dynamic environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Research Skills: Proficiency in researching news and social media content, with an understanding of LGBTQ-related issues and influencers.
Team Collaboration: Capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and individuals, fostering positive relationships and contributing to shared objectives.
